Turkey of using water as weapon of war

Turkey has cut off the water flow from Ataturk Dam in Turkey to Syria. As a result, there is a huge drop in water level in Tishreen Dam and al-Tabqa Dam, the water and electricity supply of a large part of North Syria

“The Turkish government cut off the waters of the Euphrates River, causing a significant drop in the Tishreen Dam [near Kobane] and the dam of the al-Tabqa [in Raqqa],” said Abdulkarim Omer on Monday, the head of foreign relations of Jazire Canton of Rojava North Syria.

According to the observers, this is the first time in 17 years that the water level has been dramatically reduced in both the Tishreen Dam (Rojava lake) and Tabqa Dam.

“The Turkish authorities deliberately cut off the Euphrates River from the Syrian territory. The Euphrates River’s water level in the Tishreen Dam, Tabqa and the entire riverbed reduced to about 4 to 5 meters from its natural level,” ANHA agency said.

The drop in water level may lead to a humanitarian disaster, because of its direct impacts on the welfare of hundreds of thousands of people, e.g. providing electricity to Kobani Canton, and watering the agricultural lands.
